Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute
The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute (ASMI) was created in 1981 by the state of Alaska, and is a public-private partnership between, and funded by the Alaska seafood industry and the state. ASMI promotes Alaska seafood throughout the U.S. and in 30 countries across the globe. ASMI also provides promotional materials, education, and training to the seafood industry covering many topics such as food safety and quality assurance practices.
Duties of the Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute
The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute is a marketing organization with the mission of increasing the economic value of the Alaska seafood resource through:
• Increased positive awareness of the Alaska Seafood brand;
• Collaborative marketing programs that align ASMI and industry marketing efforts for maximum impact within the food industry;
• Long-term proactive marketing planning;
• Quality assurance, technical industry analysis, education, advocacy and research;
• Prudent, efficient fiscal management;
• Championing the sustainability of Alaska's seafood harvests resulting from existing Alaska fisheries management imperatives. (State of Alaska Constitution, the Halibut Act, and Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Management and Conservation Act).

RFM
The Alaska Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) Program was developed in 2010 to offer seafood buyers and sellers a credible, cost effective choice in seafood certification. It is a comprehensive certification program founded on the strongest and most widely acknowledged international standards and practices. Based on United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) criteria, it is one of the few programs accredited under the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) code.
